If left unsealed, spills and everyday messes can easily penetrate the surface. A good impregnator sealer, depending on use, would last on average, two plus years. A good test is to put a drop off water on your stone and check it in one hour. If the water droplet has been absorbed into your hard surface, it is time to reapply sealer. Highly acidic substances such as orange juice, coffee, and wine will also etch acid sensitive stones and leave adull mark. Acid-resistant stones such as granite, slate,and sandstone will not etch.

Rabies In Horses - A Huge Concern

Rabies cases in Colorado are on a significant increase. Rabies is more prevalent along the major rivers because more animals migrate there. Rabies is now moving westward. As an example, Fort Morgan has many cases of Rabies in many kinds of animals. The most common vector for horses is the skunk! Skunks will attack horses when they are Rabid!

Many areas in Colorado are already experiencing horse Rabies. Eastern Adams County and Douglas counties have had the most recent cases. Rabies cases are expected to increase in many countries this year.

Rabies in horses does not look clinically like a "mad dog". In fact, horses that have rabies can resemble low-grade colics, depressed horses, neurological horses, and horses that are just having an "off" day.

The state veterinary office has recommended that all veterinarians in Colorado should now consider vaccinating their client's horses for Rabies. In the recent Douglas county Rabid horses case, approximately twelve people had to receive Rabies prophylaxis injections and thus creating the main concern for the health department. The difficulty is that the horses don't look like they have "Rabies" until they are well into the disease and after many people had been exposed while treating them. Thus the dilemma, if a horse looks sick, he may have Rabies and people that handle him may have to get prophylactic rabies injections.

The solution is that all horses in Colorado should be considered for Rabies vaccination. The health department will not consider "Rabies" as even a possibility if your horses have been vaccinated! even better news is that it only takes one vaccination to start prophylaxis and only one booster yearly. The final point is that the health department is unable to consider that your horse has been vaccinated for Rabies unless a veterinarian has vaccinated him.

Home Restoration After the Smoke Clears

Smoke damage from forest fires can be as harmful to your home as that from more typical fires. Forest fires may create significantly more destruction because of the amount of smoke generated, the length of exposure and the wide spread coverage areas of the smoke. And what is often not understood is that after the smoke clears and the ashes have fallen, the damage is just beginning.

To refurbish a smoke or fire damaged home and return it to its original condition, the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) recommends that you contact a professional who is certified in fire and smoke damage restoration. Homeowners may be tempted to perform complete clean up on their own, but many times this can make conditions worse.

Nesheim’s certified fire restorers are time conscious. They know that damage increases and restoration costs escalate the longer neutralization, corrosion control and cleaning is delayed. When homeowners prolong the restoration of their home, they extend the effects brought on by the smoke exposure. Below is a timeline of the effects of fire and smoke on a home.

Within Minutes - Acid soot residues cause plastics to yellow; small appliances located close to the source of combustion discolor; highly porous materials (marble, alabaster) discolor permanently.

Within Hours - Acid residues stain grout in bathrooms; fiberglass bath fixtures yellow; metals tarnish, counter tops may yellow; finishes on appliances, particularly refrigerators that extend into the heat line, may yellow; furniture finishes may discolor.

Within Days - In time, acid residues cause painted walls to yellow permanently; metal corrodes pits and rusts; wood furniture requires refinishing; vinyl flooring requires refinishing or replacement; clothing becomes soot stained; upholstery stains permanently.

Within Weeks - Restoration costs escalate tremendously. Synthetic caret fibers may yellow or discolor permanently; silver plate is corroded permanently; glass, crystal, china may require replacement due to severe etching and pitting caused by prolonged exposure to acid soot residues.

Seal salvageable surfaces that are inaccessible or slightly scorched – not only for aesthetic purposes, but primarily to encapsulate odor and prevent progressive recontamination.

After the initial pre inspection, we will proceed with clean up. These processed include cleaning deodorizing of walls and baseboards, cleaning and deodorizing of all textile surfaces including carpet, upholstery, area rugs, mattresses and upholstered head boards. Kids gown-up for Annual Junior Vet Camps

For the second year in a row the Animal Dr.'s Junior Vet Camp was a great success. This year there were three full camps because the response was so great in 2009. Approximately 30 kids in each camp ages ranging from 7 to 13 gowned up and put on their gloves. The kids spent the morning preparing for surgery (feline neuters), watching canine and feline dentals, and learning how to draw blood for laboratory work and how to bandage pets appropriately.

The kids enjoyed pizza for lunch and a Q&A with the veterinarians. In the afternoon, kids got to learn all about ears, eyes, teeth, skin and the heart. In addition, they viewed digital radiographs and examples of various foreign bodies, ticks, bots, etc. that have been collected over time. Each kid was sent home with a Build-a-Bear, bandaging material, a scrub top, stethoscope, inflatable ticks and fleas, surgical mask (cap & shoes), and more.

These camps have been very successful, and the kids truly enjoy learning about their favorite animals.

How often should I clean my carpet?

There is much confusion about how often carpet should be cleaned. You have probably heard “wait as long as you can before you clean your carpet…” or “once you’ve cleaned your carpet, it is never the same…”. These widely circulated misconceptions have risen from unfortunate encounters with unprofessional cleaners who have left behind a sticky residue in your carpet. The residue becomes a “dirt magnet” causing your carpets to become very dirty, very quickly. The common assumption is that all carpet cleaners and methods are the same, so you wait until the carpet is full of abrasive soil before you have your carpets cleaned. Now you have an unhealthy indoor environment and that abrasive soil is cutting away at your carpet fibers, and once they have been cut, you can not put them back together. Choosing a beauty salon.

As more and more beauty salons pop up around the country, it becomes harder to determine which salon gets your business. Do you want a low cost cut, a high end salon or something in between? Should you go to a walk-in chain salon or a privately owned one? Do you want a salon that only cuts hair or would you like a place that offers a full service such as nails, facials, massages, etc.?

These are all valid considerations when determining which salon gets your business. Let’s take a look at some of these issues.

The first place to start in choosing a salon is to evaluate what needs to be done. A woman just wanting her hair trimmed may go to a different salon than one who wants a permanent, coloring, or other more extensive services. If she needs her hair cut quickly and that day, she might be better off going to a walk-in salon, rather than trying to get her regular stylist to work her in on short notice. For other services, a woman may want to think about a full-service, by-appointment-only salon. This means that she will have a stylist who is expecting her, knows what she wants done, and is not under pressure to squeeze in more clients.

Referrals are often the next step in choosing a beauty salon. They will ask friends and co-workers who “does good hair” in their town or at a particular salon. Women will usually readily share good and bad experiences with beauty salons and stylists. They will also share whether they feel a beauty salon charges too much for its services, and whether the work is worth the price.

Price does play a part in choosing a beauty salon. Some salons work off the famous name of their owner, and will usually charge more as a result. The local “beauty shop” probably will be a little cheaper.

Anyone who does not receive courteous treatment should report the incident to the owner or manager of the beauty salon and go elsewhere. A customer should make sure the employees practice good hygiene, personally and with their customers. A dirty beauty salon is no place to get a haircut.

Lastly, there is a simple five step method for choosing a salon.

1. Observe different hair styles that you like and ask around (friends, family, coworkers) where they get their hair done.

2. Make a list of the different beauty salons that were given and narrow down your search according to the information that you were given.

3. Call the beauty salons from your narrow search and find out the following information: exact location, fees, hours of operation, stylist’s experience and clientele.

4. Plan a visit to determine if you are comfortable with the location of the beauty salon, like the atmosphere of the salon and stylist to discuss what you are looking for.

5. Schedule a hair appointment to decide if you are satisfied with your choice.

Pet Stain Removal Tricks: Expert Tips from Nesheim's Cleaning Services

There is one trick to removing pet stains that can save you tons of aggravation. It’s pretty easy when you think about it. But most pet owners just don’t get it.

Here’s the biggest mistake you can make. When Fido has a little tinkle or when killer makes a huge puddle, the first course of action should NOT be towels. This only mashes the urine down in the padding. It makes the urine harder to get out. Sure, some of the urine is absorbed into the towel, but not nearly all of it.

Pet urine can cause permanent damage to your floors and fabrics. It can also create an unhealthy indoor environment. When the urine is first deposited onto the floor or fabric, it is in an almost neutral state which means it is easier to remove when it is fresh. Once it dries, it turns to an “alkaline” and becomes more difficult to remove. If left for days or weeks depending on the fabric or floor type, it will permanently change the dye structure, therefore causing permanent staining. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the dye structure may already be done.

The second biggest mistake would be to grab the spotter bottle first. If you have urine in your carpet and spray some spot remover on the urine, you now have a puddle of urine with spot remover in it. This does NOT equal clean. The spot remover does not make the urine evaporate. Spot remover is made to remove what is left behind after you clean up the bulk of the mess.

Here’s the trick: Use a wet vacuum as soon as you find urine on your carpet or rug. When used on a fresh urine spot, the wet vacuum will remove the majority of the urine. Then whip out your spot remover and treat the remaining urine.

Tips for Caring for Your Area Rugs.

Rotation: To insure even wear, your rug should be rotated once a year. Depending on the traffic, the rotation may vary from 6 moths to two years.

Vacuuming: Area rugs, like most carpeting, should be vacuumed on regular basis to remove dirt and restore like to the fibers. Be sure not to vacuum the fringe with your beater bar! Use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum.

Padding: A quality pad used under your rug helps protect it from dirt, wear, and slippage.

Professional Cleaning: Area rugs can last up to three times longer with professional, timely cleaning over their life. Maintain your rugs with professional cleaning before the soiling is visible to the eye.

Spot and Spill Procedures: Make sure you safely and immediately clean up spots and spills before they are set. Always pretest on an inconspicuous place to test for colorfastness.

First, soak up the excess liquid by blotting with a clean, white absorbent material. Do not brush or rub the stain.
Then spot clean with a mild detergent-white vinegar-water solution. Do not overwet.
Rinse area thoroughly with water. Avoid wetting the rug’s backing.
Blot dry until most of the moisture has been absorbed.
Allow to air dry. A fan or cool hairdryer can be used to hasten the drying process.

The Dojo of Karate Featured on Fox 31 News.

The Dojo of Karate was fortunate enough to be on Fox 31 Good Day Colorado and Channel 2 Day Break: On The Deuce with Dan Daru.

Master Instructor Javier Lozano, Jr. informed the news station that this Saturday, January 30th from 11am to 1pm The Dojo of Karate will be hosting a Board Breaking Seminar for students of the school and families in the community that are NOT members, but would like to try it. As mentioned, there is no experience necessary to learn how to break a wooden board when using a martial arts technique.

The Dojo of Karate had about 20 students show up at 5:45am and participate in this Martial Arts demonstration on live television from 6am to about 8am, with many of them breaking the boards in a live action shot. We have no idea how they had so much energy that early, but we greatly appreciate their efforts for working hard and having fun.

Mr. Dan Daru was also a pleasure to work with the entire time, making the kids feel welcomed and empowered by getting them involved in conversations, yelling, and just letting kids be kids!

Lastly, we want to say thank you to ALL the parents that showed up bright and early, with a smile… granted it may have been the caffeine, but your commitment to The Dojo has not gone unnoticed.

Resolution Revolution.

Ok, so the new year is upon us and the vast majority of resolutions will have to do with losing weight... This in itself is not a bad idea, but it isn't really a goal! A true resolution needs to be concise, attainable, and measureable. Also, losing weight needs to be done the RIGHT way! You can certainly lose weight in a variety of means, eating healthier, exercising, taking crazy diet pills (that may have negative impacts on your health that by far outweigh the positive impacts of dropping some lbs), having a limb removed... I don't mean to make light of the situation, but you get the point.

THE NUMBER ONE WAY to lose weight (and to improve your health) is to eat right and to exercise. The problem there, is that it takes a commitment! We all want the easy way (let's sit on the couch, eat potato chips and take some pill that doesn't let us absorb the fat, or the nutrients from our food). Some people may say "I don't know how to eat right," or "it's too hard." I am not talking about radical change, we all know the basics of what is "good" to eat, and what is "bad" to eat.

EVERYTHING IN MODERATION! Don't get on some All Grapefruit Diet, or All Chitlins, or All Anything. Research shows us that eating 5 small meals a day is much better than 3 (or 2) big ones. Research shows us fruits and vegetables (for the overwhelming majority of people) improve health. Fiber is good, water is good, lean meat is good, fish is good, omega-3 fats are good, antioxidants are good, protein is good, etc. Too much saturated fat is bad, high sugar foods are bad, a triple patty hamburger with triple cheese, onion rings, smashed between a doughnut in place of a bun (things like that do exist, I will touch on them in another post), is bad! This doesn't mean you can't have saturated fats or sugar, again EVERYTHING IN MODERATION!Removing something from your diet completely (say pepperoni pizza) is just grounds for a binge--> guilt trip-->binge cycle. Just try to be smart about it! If you need help seek out a professional (dietician, nutritionist, chiropractor, medical doctor).

As far as losing weight, don't count lbs, especially on a day to day basis! More importantly, measure waist size or body fat (again it will TAKE TIME, if it is instantaneous SOMETHING IS WRONG). The maximum amount of body fat a healthy person can lose is about 3-4 pounds per week. Typically, only obese people are likely to be able to lose this amount of fat. By comparison, a woman of average weight (about 140 pounds) is likely to lose a maximum of about 1-1.5 pounds per week. If you try to starve yourself by drastically reducing your normal caloric intake, your body will change your metabolism and "hold on" to more of these calories. Your body is smarter than you! This is also why it is not a good idea to "skip" breakfast. I have treatedSOOOO many people who employ this philosophy. When you first get up in the morning, your body is STARVING, not feeding it is just grounds for it to hold onto what it has. Also if you lose too much weight too fast, you can develop gallstones, loose skin, blood sugar problems and etc. Take a steady approach to your goals. With the New Year come new resolutions. Have you felt like you have neglected your carpet? Maybe even felt a tinge guilty? After all, you wouldn’t drive your car for 100,000 miles without changing the oil, would you? Of course not. Just like your automobile, your carpets, floors, and fabrics represent a significant investment. To keep your carpet “tuned up”, simply follow these vital steps…

5 Easy Steps To Protect Your Investment:

1. Check My Waranty. Copies of specific warranties on your carpet purchase may be available from your carpet retailer. Stain resist warranties can vary from 5 to 20 years. ALL STAIN REISIT WARRANTIES REQUIRE REGULAR CLEANING AND IMMEDIATE SPOT REMOVAL.

2. VACUUM, VACUUM, VACUUM! It is said that the three most important rules for maintaining carpet are vacuuming. Vacuum your carpet often. Once or twice a week at least. Vacuuming removes the sharp soil that can cut and slice the carpet fiber causing premature wear. Much of this soil is not visible to the eye. Remove any loose particles such as loose food, leaves, pieces of crayon, bugs, etc. as those items can cause a spot on the carpet.

3. HAVE MY CARPET PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED. Professional cleaning by a professional, certified firm should be done at least every 12 months according to Dupont and major carpet manufacturers. Heavy traffic areas may need it more often. Manufacturers warranties require professional cleaning ever 18 to 24 months to retain texture retention warranties. Rule of Thumb: Clean your carpet before it is visibly soiled.

4. REMOVE SPOTS IMMEDIATELY. Spots that are not immediately removed can turn into permanent stains very easily. Always use a spot cleaner that is recommended by the carpet manufacturer or your trained, certified professional cleaner! Many “over the counter” spotters leave too much soap residue that leaves a sticky residue behind that will make your spots return!

5. HAVE CARPET PROTECTOR RE-APPLIED. The soil resistor that is built into stain resistant nylon carpet is removed with regular foot traffic and harsh cleaners. To keep your carpet cleaner longer, have your protector reapplied each time you have your carpets professionally cleaned.

How to Enter:

To enter, simply snap a photo (these do not have to be super high quality) of your pumpkin and e-mail it to us at info@b2cSavings.com (subject: pumpkin contest). Please send the photo as an attachment or send us the link if you have it hosted online. Please tell us your name and the city you live in. We will not post first and last names to respect your privacy (finalists will have first name and first initial of last name mentioned).

Spirit Kids Back in School Fair!

WHAT? An event to promote community sharing while spending time and having fun with neighbors.

WHEN? August 29th from Noon-6pm

WHERE? Village Square Shopping Center, 629 East South Boulder Road, Louisville, CO 80027

HOW? Spirit Kids will renting 40 booth in the Village Square Shopping Center parking lot for $50 a booth. All rental fees will go to needy families that cannot afford back to school clothes by providing $50 gift cards from Spirit Kids that will be delivered by Social Services.

WHAT ELSE? There will be a silent auction, if you have anything to donate please contact a representative below. All proceeds will go to clothing gift cards.

AND? Spirit Kids is asking all consignors to donate whatever they are comfortable with from their account to add to the gift cards balance.

This event will have booths from local vendors/businesses, children activities, live music and kid's entertainment on site.

A.C.E. Arts Coalition of Erie is a group of artists dedicated to advancing the Arts in Erie. We have created a non-profit organization that has raised the money and done the work to file our 501 (c)3 papers next month! We are paving the way towards creating a Cultural Arts Center in Erie, CO that will include all the arts and be available to our community. We have recently moved to a larger facility where we will be able to begin classes and workshops. We have had 3 Major events since our inception ... You can check those out on our site ... and we are currently manning an A.C.E. Booth at the new Erie Farmers Market every weekend with one or two of our members artists. We are planning a Fall Juried Members Show in November and we are currently raising the awareness and taking names on a petition to take with us on our next visit with the Erie Board of Trustees.

We would like to start off by saying thank you to all of those that stopped by the b2c Saving's Booth during the Erie Town Fair this past Saturday. Unfortunately the weather caused a delay in the hot air balloon launch that morning, it was looking like the only thing that would be flying through the air Saturday Morning was all of the vendor's tents. It turned out to be a gorgeous day and the streets were full of local residents by 10 am. As for the hot air balloons ... they had a successful launch on Sunday morning.

This was a great opportunity for the b2c Saving's Team to interact with the community and spread the word about the b2c Savings Program. Thank you to over 100 new members that took the time to hear about the program and sign up as b2c Savings Card Members. It was also great hearing from current members and listening to you list off all your favorite places where you use your b2c Savings Card.

Homeplate Novelties in Erie presents the 2009 Erie Brawl which will be held Saturday May 16th at the Erie Town Fair. The Erie Brawl, put on by the Rocky Mountain Championship Wrestling Organization will feature match-ups between "Outcast" David Taylor (current Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Champion) and Tatanka, and a Triple Threat Match between Awesome Andy, Nathan Sin and Vash.

This is a free show and will include an autograph session from RMCW stars and WWE stars Tatanka and Doink the Clown.
